I am Full Stack-Developer with 10+ years of work experience in international teams. Over the last 6 years I accompanied the rapid growth of Babbel.com and learned how to scale a very successful global E-Learning platform which today helps over 1 million active subscribers to learn new languages.
I am experienced with a big range of web technologies that are used to build and run modern, high-performing web applications and serve content to millions of users worldwide.
I like to build my applications with Ruby, Node.js, HTML5/CSS and ES6 and have some experience with Python. I use tools and frameworks like Rails, Express, Jekyll, jQuery, Bootstrap. I test my JavaScript code with Mocha, Chai and Sinon, my Ruby code with Rspec and host applications on AWS or Heroku.
I have a Master in Environmental Science with a special interest in Environmental and Earth monitoring. I recently explored how convolutional neural networks, a class of deep artificial neural networks, can be used to detect plastic debris floating on the sea surface on high-resolution satellite imagery.
More than 8 million tonnes of plastic leaks into the ocean each year – equal to dumping a garbage truck of plastic every minute. This is a global thread for marine ecosystems, marine resources, its biodiversity and mankind itself.
I am currently looking for fundings, sponsors and partnerships that help me to develop technical solutions for monitoring marine pollution and / or want to join forces against one of our biggest environmental threats.
